Teens Be Wary of Dairy

Drinking milk can make acne in teens worse, according to researchers at Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Clement Adenamowo, one of the authors of the study, says the hormones and growth factors produced by cows, which we ingest through milk, exacerbate the state of flux of teen’s hormones. During puberty, steroids produced by the body lead to the production of sebum, blockage of sebaceous glands in the skin and colonisation of bacteria in skin follicles. Dr. Adebamowo suggests teens with acne have no more than three glasses of milk a day. Calcium intake can be boosted with a multivitamin with calcium and with non-dairy milk products, such as from soya-based foods.
