Summer! It is time to get a glowing tan the sun-safe way!
As summer heats up our skin needs more protection from the sun. Some rules to follow while under the sun:
1. Always wear sunscreen
Wear broad-spectrum water-resistant SPF30+ sunscreen. It provides 30 times more protection than going without.
2. Avoid solariums
Solariums generally emit UVA radiation but some produce higher levels of UVB to mimic the solar spectrum and higher levels of UV to speed up tanning.
3. Fake it
This is the only safe one. It is important to exfoliate and smooth on a body lotion before applying. This way offers minimal or no sun protection so always wears sunscreen outdoors.
4. Cover up
It’s always a wise thing to do, to cover up. Loose shirts and kaftans in light cotton are great swimsuit covers and can provide an extra ultra-violet protection (UPF) factor of around 20.
5. Shade your eyes
Eyes need protection from the sun as skin cancer can develop on the surface of the eyes.
6. Put a lid on it
Wear a broad-rimmed hat to cover face, neck and ears.
7. Take a siesta
Staying inside or rest in a well-shaded area between 10am and 3 pm since UV levels are at their highest rate.
8. Do it all over again
You should reapply sunscreen every two hours and more often if swimming
9. Do the sensitive spots
Don’t forget to protect your lips, backs of your hands and feet as they susceptible to sunburn.
10. Stay in shade
Chill out and relax under a shady tre
